Small Country From the East

Youth are so adventurous. They want to go any where – and the main goal? – to enjoy, and to experience new things . They want daily changes, and daily servings. Youth are easy to get bored, that leads them to do not ordinary things.

We love dreaming, we love imagining things and we can go everywhere, anywhere even in just sitting, even in just resting.

Right now, I want to bring you to a place where you will enjoy, you will discover new things. A place different from what we often see. Well, it is what we want to do, right?

I’m sure, you know this place – also part of South East Asia, Singapore.

Singapore is a small country – but RICH. It went through a lot of battles, in money, in government and in people. It experienced several battles and persecutions. But after a long slavery, the leaders took the initiative to bring change, to bring discipline in the midst.

Well, after years and until now – they were growing, they are rich.

Now, want to enter Singapore? Sit back and relax, fasten your seatbelts and we will fly all the way to Singapore. Ready your clothes, ready your things and ready your heart and imagination..

From NAIA airport – four hours before we land @ Singapore’s Changi Airport. It was like Hotel. It was so organized, like babies in cribs that they should be properly placed or grouped and being taken cared of. The crib was color green, there are lots of frames hanged there. At the left side, was the Laptop Station, with 5 computers – for free.

Now, Start going out from that glassed crib, walk along the colorful carpet, feel the coldness of the air. Go down using the escalator with the Singaporean Security. Walk, walk, and walk. You’re getting near. Walk in the middle of the shops, full of dresses, and bags. Both left and right you can see branded stalls, expensive dresses, bags, foods, chocolates. It also has ‘pasalubong’. Walk and walk. Give your ticket and begin to smell and breathe the fresh air of Singapore. Let’s go out of the Changi Airport.

It was so beautiful. It was so clean, the sky is so blue, it was so fresh! Like NAIA, it has two roads, one with the arrivals and one with the departures. But all you can see are trees, light posts, and the blue sky.

Out of Changi Airport is easy, it has only one way out, no more sideways. But then, it was filled with trees. Filled with GREEN colors and some pink, and red and blue flowers. It was an awesome view—you will never ever get over it.

To get into the main city or the center of Singapore, you will have the chance to view and visit, the first and last beach in their country. It was also because their country is small, and no place to have mountains or sceneries.

We can just call this beach as--- FREE beach. From the word itself, it is for free! It is for everyone. They can swim, they can build castles, they can play. Beside the beach were stalls of food, which are very cheap. One big meal only costs $5.00 each. Worth it!

Surprisingly, they will also talk to you in your language. “Hello, Maganda! What do you want?”, “Ano sayo?” Well in fact, they are really amazed with our beautiful faces.

If you will go to another place, and if you want to commute, you won’t see any jeepneys around, or trycicles. You will observe that everyone has their own cars – the driver’s seat is in the right side, and everything is automatic. Instead of riding jeepneys and tricycles, Singaporeans mostly use and transport using Busses. And their bus was named in numbers – In the Philippines, you have to check the plate name first, like, “Cubao, Alimal.” But here, a big no no. they use Numbers – 55, 75, 20, 30. The long busses, and updown busses has their own stops. They will not adjust, but the passengers will adjust.

Second choice, is FMRT. You have to use an electronic card. Even if you put it in your pocket, bag, or wallet, if you just tap it, you can enter. The escalator there is fast, 5-10 seconds, you can go up or down right away. It’s just the same with our MRT, but they are more organized.

Only 7 people in a row can sit. If you butt in, na aah, they’ll kick your butt. They will spank your face. One thing you wouldn’t forgive with this, is the SMELL. It’s like a spoiled food. It is as cool as person who was after playing basketball. Good news – people got use to it. Wanna Try? Just imagine the smell where you perspired and got body odor – but this is worse. Yi.

Next stop – Bugis. Singapore’s first class Divisoria. It was a pretty cool place. Air conditioned, neat and in order. You can buy whatever you want in a cheap price. Fullybooked notebook is only $4. Accessories 8 pieces for $5. Kitchen things only for $10 up. Sandwiches – pizza flavor, chocolate, straweberries only sold for $1.

You will be forced to buy by its presentations, and cool prices. And one thing that will ensure you – it is because of the perseverance of the workers. You will be tired for them, because for the whole day – they will just shout the price. “Bili na po – Buy Now – One dollah. One dollah. One dollah. Na ahh. But it’s worth it. You will ne-ever regret. So if you plan to have souvenirs you can go in BUGIS.

Want some more???

Now, Let’s enter Esplanade. Night out area of the citizens You’ll have the chance to see the beautiful and colored buildings in Singapore there, you will see bridge, you will feel and smell the fresh air, with the accompaniment of a live band, performing every night.

Every night was fantastic. You will have the chance to see SINGAPORE FLYER. Capsuls for $1000, where you will have a romantic dinner with your hunny, or maybe time for self to relax. This Singapore Flyer is the largest Ferris Wheel for us. So huge that became Singapore’s attraction to other country. Every night you will see the capsules, changing in color, rotating. And will get you to the point of imagining what the people are doing. Ahuh. Want to experience what they are doing.

In Esplanade, you can enter also a shaped like DURIAN building- where you can see (really) everything, Big Yachts, boats. Big library, Restaurants, tallest buildings, and great man made designs. Esplanade was a beautiful place.

There are still lots of places here in Singapore that you should see and discover. Places which you haven’t seen and imagined before. Like Sentosa, Max Pavilion, City Harvest, churches and a lot more. Yet, that’s all for now.

Before we go back to Manila. I want you know this. Singapore’s Sunrise is 8am, yet people wake up 4am-5am to start working, and cleaning the house. And its sunset is 8pm. During the day, you will never feel the heat of sun, because it is very light, and windy. No pollutions.

They treasure Stoplight. They respect traffic rules. Stoplights has a timer – 1 minute. It is seen so they knew when would they go and when would they stop. They are all disciplined. They know their standing, they know what to follow or not. They are not throwing trashes every where, they know how to segregate trashes well. Bio. Non bio. Cans. Actually, they are not using much plastics.

Funny thing, they also fall in line in Comfort rooms, but not per cubicle. But outside the CR. How organized they are! It is in uniform, every CR is like this, First Cubicle, is merely in the floor, 8 inches high only, like a pool – for the PEEP thing. And the next three, ordinary bowl, but a little bit higher.

All their workers are Indian. All of them are workaholic. Most of them are church addict. All of them loved their Nation that’s why they are all cooperating, following and believing to God and their leaders.

Singapore is a nice place. Singapore is small unlike the Philippines, but they have a big heart, big mindset for their country. Big vision to make their Country the best. It is seen in the results.

So much.. so much.. It’s already our flight. Welcome to PAL. Ready to take off, fasten your seatbelts. 4 hours until we reach the Beautiful Philippines. Ready to land. Welcome to the Philippines, welcome to the real world.

Look at your surroundings, slap your face. Welcome BACK! Ps. Open me if you want to fly again.
